"to be a community who put God first and actively bring the transforming love of Jesus to the world around us"
Cells. are small communities of between eight and ten people, who meet each week to pray together, learn about God together, and find ways of reaching their mates together. Whether you’re a student or a young adult - there are cells for you - and you’ll grow in more ways than you can imagine…

What is cell?

Cell is church. Check out this passage from Acts 2:43-47 (CEV)

Everyone was amazed by the many miracles and wonders that the apostles performed. All the Lord’s followers often met together, and they shared everything they had. They would sell their property and possessions and give money to whoever needed it. Day after day they met together in the temple. They broke bread together in different homes and shared their food happily and freely, while praising God. Everyone liked them, and each day the Lord added to their group others who were being saved.

Sounds good doesn’t it?! The early church was built around small meetings in people’s homes, and larger meetings in the temple. We’re up for doing the same. We all meet together on Sundays, for the larger celebration - a chance to hear stories of what’s going on, worship, pray and receive from God together, and have teaching together as a whole congregation. That is church and most of us are familiar with that.

As small communities, cells are our best opportunity for building real, open, honest relationships with one another, for reading the bible together, for praying for and encouraging one another, and for praying for and reaching out to, our friends and the people around us. And because cells are church too, yet small at the same time, they are a fantastic way of developing in your own gifts - whether it’s praying for others, serving, leading, prophecy or something else.

Church wasn’t supposed to be just big meetings. Yet that is what it has become…. Cells are a vital, biblical part of church - and form the foundation of the body, the community, and the church, which we are all part of.

How does it work?

We recommend that everyone in Submerge is part of a cell. It is the best way of being involved. If you know someone who is in a cell already, then feel free to go along with them to their cell. You can also sign-up online, and we’ll link you up with people at a similar life stage to you.

Student Cells?
Submerge supports the network of Fusion cells across Guildford, together with a number of other Guildford churches. If you are a student, and want to see God use you to make a difference while you’re at Uni, get involved!!! Dan Frith is the guy to talk to about student cells. For more information, drop him an email

Clusters?
As well as the small cell groups, we have clusters - slightly larger groups who meet together around a specific people group they would like to reach. They are defined by mission. We want everyone to be involved in a cluster as part of outworking our faith in the real world.
